From there, we’ll traverse the rugged beauty of Curbar Edge and Froggatt Edge, with their sweeping views of rolling hills, craggy outcrops, and the charm of the Derwent Valley below. As we descend, a magical woodland trail awaits, with its ancient trees and tranquil ambiance, before we return to the welcoming embrace of Longshaw Lodge. Peak District National Park -Bamford Edge and Win Hill circular hike
Discover the magic of the Hope Valley on this exhilarating circular hike, packed with variety and breath-taking views. Starting at Heatherdene Car Park, we’ll begin our adventure with a steady climb through peaceful woodlands, emerging onto the iconic Bamford Edge. Here, we’ll pause to take in the sweeping panoramas of the Hope Valley and Ladybower Reservoir.
From Bamford Edge, we’ll descend towards Yorkshire Bridge, crossing over tranquil countryside before making our way through Win Hill plantation. A challenging ascent up Win Hill rewards us with even more spectacular views, some of the finest in the area—stretching across the reservoir and towards the rolling hills of the White Peak.
Our descent leads us to the banks of Ladybower Reservoir, where we can learn about the 'plugholes'. Here, the landscape shifts to calm waters framed by forested slopes. Then it’s a gentle stroll to our starting point at Heatherdene Car Park.

Peak District National Park - Alport Castles and The Haggs circular hike
This spectacular hike explores the rugged beauty of Alport Castles, starting and ending at the popular Fairholmes Car Park near the iconic Derwent Dam. Our route begins with a steady ascent through the peaceful Haggtor Coppice, before crossing Haggwater Bridge and following the tranquil River Ashop. From here, we’ll make our way through Rowley Bridge and climb to the dramatic Alport Castles, one of the largest inland landslips in the UK. These imposing rock formations are a true natural wonder, offering breath-taking views of the surrounding valleys.
After soaking in the scenery, we’ll cross Rowlee Pasture, where the open moorland stretches for miles, providing a sense of remoteness and tranquillity. The route then descends through the picturesque Lockerbrook Coppice, a serene woodland trail that leads us back to Fairholmes Car Park. If time allows, we’ll also take a moment to admire the historic Derwent Dam, famous for its role in the training missions for the legendary Dambusters.
